Bag for carrying DSLR body and lens while climbing/hiking inside backpack

I am an avid overnight hiker / climber / mountaineer and usually carry my camera in my overnight backpack (sized around 60+ Liters).

I recently acquired Nikon d800 with 28-300 lens, and was looking for a bag/padded-inserts to carry my camera inside the backpack along with my other camping gear (food, sleeping bag, tent, ice axe, etc). I typically strap my tripod outside my pack along with ice axe and hiking poles.

Lowepro AW series appear to be good option (fits the body and lens, waterproof, camera can be easily removed/put-in); but are there any alternatives that are more compact (without straps, pockets etc) yet with good padding and possibly waterproof? Access wise - I prefer top loading bags as it allows easy access from my top loading pack.
