C 7D memory card and update FW problem

If the firmware file on the card is identical to the hard disk then it sounds like a hardware fault in the camera.

Have you checked for bent/broken pins in the CF slot in the camera?

If you have a friendly camera shop nearby they might be willing to try updating using one of their CF cards. Otherwise it seems like a trip to Canon might be needed.
