Why change the old defaults?

Could some one at dpreview elaborate why the default values are the way they are. If I would have pushed this new system onto the public I would have kept the defaults the way they had been: Collapsed view, no balloons, yellow primary colors, etc. Then put the configuration options at the top of a page as for "View mode" and not as for color setting at the end of the page. The config options must be kept together!
