I fear that the E-PL2 can focus much faster than Canon's $800 brick... Maybe even slower than the E-PL1!

Pair that with a Canon EF/S lens and it gets worse.

The question is:  Can a firmware fix that flaw?  If so, to what extent?

If it does perform as slow as suspected, would you buy it right away, or wait for a Canon patch (assuming it can be patched)?
