Build quality appears OK. The Hot Shoe mount is metal and the locking arm is good. Mile is marked Hoya Corp and appears to developed in Canida and assembled in the Philippines.. The single AAA cell is in a sealed enclosure - So I guess it is waterproof (we will see). I can't say that it would take being dropped though..
