I would suppose that at the end of the day, and irrespective of whatever smoke and mirrors the manufacturer has dreamed up, the important thing is our perceived quality of the result. After all if our camera is turning out photo's that please us then in spite of the machinations of physics and manufacturers perfidity, it is working to our satisfaction and doing it well. Wasn't that why we purchased it in the first place??  I can partially understand the somewhat abstract (to me) arguments on test methodology and photon saturation levels but it does drift away somewhat from the cameras raison d'etre.  I make myself expresso coffee throughout the day - I adjust my grinder and machine pressures just so - I then drink and enjoy the brew, I dont have to work out the chemistry of my coffee in order to enjoy it.
