Actually, it will only make them look worse if you view the image at 100% resolution. If you compare 2 images with the same lens and 2 different bodies at the same magnification, the one from the higher resolution body will always have equal or greater detail. That was the OPs point.
Plus, correcting aberrations like lateral CA when post processing gets more effective with higher pixel counts.
