The rant was ok. It is always nice to follow the thoughts of someone else regarding photo equipment. I have just ordered the X-E1 and I am a little bit worried because photographing birds has been a hobby for me, too. I have the Pen E-PL2 with the 12 and the 45, but when going to my bird island this summer I bought a Panasonic 100-300. I did not get a single sharp picture with it, so your thread was interesting to me, too.

I appreciate all of the great comments. And I am not looking for a 400mm lens for the X system. The 55-200mm may do me fine, if I decide I want a tele on the X system at all.
In regard to the 100-300 Panny (And I know this is a Fuji forum) I found that shooting that lens at close distances gave me very sharp images. But when I shoot at or close to infinity, the lens is no where near as sharp.
