How to reply w/o reply showing in quoted signature?

I've now replied to two posts using the new layout and both times used 'reply with quote'.  I put my reply at the bottom as I always have, and it seems my reply becomes part of the signature - so when 'hide signature' is clicked, my reply is hidden as well.  Never had this problem before.  How do I prevent that?
