Thermal flying
In reply to goetz48, Oct 3, 2012

The official world record for long distance soaring is 1,015 miles. It was set on May 9, 1977, by glider pilot Karl Striedieck. Which was a thermal flight.

And Dustin Martin and Jonny Durand have broken the open distance hang gliding world record, flying circa 761km from Zapata in Texas on 3 July 2012. Thermal flying.

So maybe not the 3000km of wave flying but impressive thermal flying nonetheless.
