Here are some tips for sports shots FWIW-
Shoot from loser possible position, in your shot you appear to have been standing and shooting downward
Mind your horizons
Shoot and or crop tight removing dead space, and don't chop any limbs. If you chop limb don't do it at a joint
Mind your backgrounds for clip utter and distraction
Attempt to isolate with largest Aperture, and largest distance behind player to background
Don't over reach for your focal length, have patience.
Remember- face, ball, contact/action and Eyes all combine to make the best shot content.

Some great advice, thank you. I will try to remember these next time I'm shooting.
