Picture Control Settings: Does portrait do anything special to skin tones?

Does anyone know if the PT setting does anything special to skin tones that the other settings don't?

I've always wondered if two settings would produce identical results if they overlapped on the grid view. For example, in PT I can set saturation to +1 and contrast to +3, and in NL I can set saturation to +1 and contrast to +2. With those settings, N and P overlap on the grid. Does this mean that both settings produce identical results, or should I still use PT for pictures of people?

I know I can test this but I was wondering if someone already knew the answer.
