Teflon tape is a sealer, not a bonding compound.
It works, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Overtime it could disintegrate into tiny shreds which tend to clog and will be hard to remove from the female thread of the shutter release, this could cause problems should you need to replace your softie or use another accessory.
I know this because I use Teflon tape a lot in my profession.

On the other hand, nail polish hardens and crystallizes over time and is easily removed just with a gentle tap.
