28mm f/2.8 on DX

I know the arguments against the 28mm on a DX body (the 35mm 1.8G is better value etc etc) but is it true that this lens is not brilliant on a DX body? I'd like it for my D7000 as a standard-ish lens but Photozone's test suggested that it is poor on DX but quite good on FX (which I don't really understand).
Anyone using it on DX?
