Split focusing screen for SLR/n or 14n

Having seen how good Katzeye screen is on my Nikon D300 I am considering to do something along the same lines with SLR/n. Unfortunately there is not much experience shared with people replacing SLR/n focusing screen so I'd like to gather some information/experience of other people doing so.

I have read on some Russian forums that early Katzeye screens for SLR/n were a bit dark and did not match the thickness of original one so the focus was a bit off. The Katzeye also does not give any information how metering is affected stating that it was not fully tested. Anyone has any experience with Katzeye for SLR/n or 14n specifically to share here pleas?

I have also read that it is possible to use screens from FM3A or other Nikons - any thoughts or experience doing it on SLR/n 14n?
