AF autozoom - what is it?

Apparently a live view feature, but my manual doesn't describe what it actually does, only how it can be enabled. I tried to design a test to find out more, but it's hard to know how a scene would have to be structured to show it working, and the scenes I did try apparently were unlucky guesses.
