Hi Jakesan,

I'm just a tourist here (I use Canon 5D II and a Panasonic FZ200 for astro photography), but I have used the High Pass filter a lot. The filter technique is best suited for large sensor cameras, but you might try stacking 10-20 images in PS, and then use High Pass filter. For small sensor cameras I always use very carefull adjustment in contrast by hand (negative mask and brush).

Here is a picture of the Andromeda Galaxy done with FZ200, 25 images, and very carefully use of High Pass, in combination with masks. Do it in stages, not all at once
