MSA-10 + 5n = NO SYNC

Is there any setting you need to be on to make the MSA-10 work? Mine just arrived and I've tried it with a really old flash I have laying around but it doesn't fire when I click the shutter. I think I might buy a Yongnuo and try it with that.

The flash I have does fire on it's own and when I wiggle it on the MSA-10 it goes off as well...
