The only example I have seen has differing focus points and exposure on photos with and without mirror (and shot in jpeg, in bright sunlight), and from this concludes the mirror removes 5% detail. Sheer lunacy.

As to noise, the vast majority of noise in modern SLR/SLT camera photos is photon noise, and yes, that gets 1/2 stop worse from the SLT mirror, and no, that is not all that significant in practice. Shutter speed variation will be larger from shot to shot. Modern cameras are so good it takes pretty rabid pixel peeping to see the differences.
