Slightly OT but I once had a terrible time working out why ACR messed up a sunflower but SPP did not:

(SD10, 70mm macro, LO res snapshot taken on the way to the watch bench.)

The light patches at left were not due to over-exposure. I finally concluded that the image, taken in sunlight, had tones that were out-of-gamut for sRGB. As can be seen, SPP 5.1 did a much better job of conversion than ACR 5.4 !!

For some reason, ACR decided to add lots of blue but SPP held the blue content down in that area. The problem was visible even ACR's on-screen sRGB rendition, thus pointing the finger at ACR's working space to sRGB conversion.

I also tried IrfanView, DCraw, Picasa, and even Adobe's RAW to DNG converter - all with acceptable results.
