I cant speak for the 24-70mm version but the 24-120mm is a superb lens. I use it as my "standard" lens now, having looked for ages at the possibilities. the 24-120mm is quite light but solid, very sharp on my D700. no lens creep, CA is minimal, close focusses. its sits comfortably in the hand and the price is reasonable. BTW, always go for a full frame lens, even if you have a DX body, if you trade up to a FX body, you will not need to change the lens
