Agreed - NY begs for wide angle!
I'd get the 10-22 or one of the equivalent lenses from 3rd party suppliers (although the Canon 10-22 is reportedly the best one in this category) and bring that lens plus the fifty for the occasional low-light shot / street photography. Assuming you'll get the 70-200 there you will be covered on the tele side.
18mm on a crop camera will leave you wanting in NY
