AF lock hesitation with Sony 18-135 toward the zoom end?

Hey guys, I just recently picked up one of the Sony 18-135 lenses with the new style SAM and have noticed some poor telephoto AF acquisition performance with my a77. AF is extremely fast and accurate from 18mm up to around the 50-70 range, but from 70 onward it begins to hesitate. AF moves to the general position quickly, but then the motor kind of stutters. It's as if the camera wants a focus encoder position but the motor overshoots it and drives it back - overshooting it again. The time of this overshooting stuttering goes on anywhere from a split second to almost a second an a half. The worst of it occurs at 135 mm. I've never had any problems on my a77 with any of the old style SAM lenses - including the 55-200.

Has anyone else with the 18-135 lens had this problem or have I just gotten a dud?

Sony SLT-A77
