My 14-42 has the dreaded "check lens status" fault

Just started happening a couple of days ago - just a month outside of the 12 month warranty since I purchased in August 2011. From the google results it seems to be a design fault - so should I expect local Oly agents them to honour to fix it as such even though its is 13 months old?
