Why X-E1 will be a huge seller
Sep 30, 2012

m4/3 has reached a new level where its bestsellers are large (Olympus OM5 is 2 ounces heavier than X-E1) and lenses are now routinely $700, 999 and 1,395.

m4/3 went from (1) "the smallest and most affordable DSLR alternative" to (2) "the most competent IQ machine that fits in a small carry case".

The (1) became the Sony RX100. For $ 650 and 8 ounces, it is truly pocketable and inexpensive and good enough.

But (2) is the X-E1. m4/3 buyers are demanding IQ and the smaller m4/3 sensor size does not compete well with the Fuji X line.

So far the X100, though it did well, had the handicap of single lens, sticky blades and now a 2 year dated feature set. The Pro is too large looking. The diopter not being adjustable is frustrating. The X-E1 is just right, will best the m4/3 IQ, will travel in the same case as a m4/3.

m4/3 does not do well with long lenses. They are not fast, and the IQ is not there compared to a $ 500 Nikon and a $500 Nikon 300mm VR lens.

Fuji will be sold out for 6 months on the X-E1. Sony did not sell out of the RX100, they really stocked up.

I had $ 4000 worth of m4/3 and was frustrated by the early X100 focus challenges. But now Fuji will get it together and deliver the balanced portable package. m4/3 buyers are spending thousands and resale prices are high, as new m4/3 buyers eargerly move away from DSLRs into what they think is still great IQ.
