Does the EX2 fix the EX1's operational annoyances?
Sep 29, 2012

Can someone with experience with both the EX1 and 2 comment on whether the EX2 overcomes any of the operational annoyances of the EX1? Two EX1 problems that I can think of are:

1) A long lag between turning the camera on and before the lens zoom reacts to control. My EX1 waits 5 seconds after being switched on and before the zoom lever has any effect. Not a problem if your shot will be at the wide end, but if you need tele then the extra unnecessary wait is annoying. It would be better if the zoom lever was functional immediately after switching on.

2) The lens doesn't retract until after last shot written to the SD card. So if you take a RAW shot and then immediately hit the power button, the camera waits until the "busy" light stops blinking before retracting the lens. About 8 seconds between when you power down and before the lens can be covered. A better behavior would be to retract the lens while writing to the SD card. Or at least retract first then write.

These two annoyances tend to get in the way a lot when you're shooting/moving/shooting/... They are not so much of an issue if you leave the camera on all the time.

They seem as if they could fixed in firmware. Certainly they could be fixed in new hardware. Does the EX2 exhibit similar sluggishness or has operational performance been enhanced?
