I wish Nikon would release a true enthusiast's camera which focused on taking pictures. Something in the 12 MP range like the d90 but with the technical innovation in noise reduction that we've seen over the past few years. I imagine Nikon could squeeze some pretty damn impressive low-light performance out of a "lower" MP camera.

Couple that with some of the other d7000 features (ability to meter AIS lenses, better autofocus, etc...) and that would be a phenomenal camera.

As far as I'm concerned, we could lose live view and video. I've had a d90 for years and never use either.

Sir, you have completely and accurately described the D700! They are a used bargain these days. As a D90 user, I find the D700 a basic and "phenomenal" camera.
