Hey, this one is especially informative:

http://versusio.com/en/nikon-d600-vs-sony-slt-a99

I didn't realize that the A99 sensor is "35.8 by 239.0mm in size... 9.9 times larger " than the D600 sensor. Now that we know that, the A99 ought to cost ten times as much as the D600.

Yeah, but none of my lenses will cover an image circle that big -- I'd have to shoot in crop mode all the time!

A few other pearls from the same comparison ...

In favor of D600 :

  • Is dustproof and water-resistant (IP67) -- Yes vs No -- Totally protected against dust (IP6x) and protected against immersion down to 1m (IPx7)

  • Weather sealed -- Yes vs No -- Device is sealed, so you can shoot in rain

  • A little lighter -- 760.0g vs 812.0g -- 52.0g lighter

  • Better video recording quality -- 1080p @30fps vs 1080p @24fps -- 25% better video recording quality

  • Has manual gain -- Yes vs No -- This allows to manually set the gain.

  • Has manual iso -- Yes vs No -- This allows to manually set the ISO level.

  • Has manual exposure -- Yes vs No -- This allows to manually set the exposure.

In favor of A99 :

  • Significantly faster shooting at highest resolution with AF as JPEG format -- 10.0fps vs 5.5fps -- 1.8x faster shooting at highest resolution with AF as JPEG format . Fast continuous shooting is useful for catching action shots.

  • Higher pixel density -- 544ppi vs 442ppi -- 24% higher pixel density

  • Appreciably higher screen resolution -- 1358 x 905 px vs 1176 x 784 px -- 34% higher screen resolution

  • Explicitly more battery power -- 1,650mAh vs 1,100mAh -- 1.5x more battery power

All-in-all, a very informative comparison -- I was previously unaware of all the stuff listed above. I'm sure glad BMWX5 brought it to our attention!
