AF-C Not Tracking Subjects - Am I doing Something Wrong?

See your D700 Manual page 74 at the bottom: "Active focus points are not displayed in continuous-servo AF."

In Auto-area AF mode + AF-C your camera will re-focus, but is not really tracking subjects like in one of the Dynamic-area AF modes.
