Rx100 on-camera scene images fake?

FYI - These samples are on the Nex7, Nex5N, C3 and several other Sony cameras. Gary Friedman makes note in his nex5n book that the "night portrait" sample picture uses a second side fill flash, which the NEX is not capable of doing.

Personally, I don't consider the samples to be anything but a quick visual reminder of what mode I'm selecting. For example, I know the picture of the kid is portrait - front of building at dusk is hand held twilight etc.. I can flip to the scene I want based on the image that is the same on all of my sony cameras.

If you use them as aids to get the scene you want quickly - they suit their intended purpose.
