Converted Nikon D600 raw files into DNG - saw amazing recovery potential

I found out that you can trick Lightroom into importing D600 raw files by modifying the EXIF to change the model name to an already-supported camera. The resulting image is cropped but usable. The best model name to use so far is Nikon D4 (image will be cropped to 4928 x 3280.
Anyway, I saw that the files had tremendous highlight and shadow recovery. You might recall the clipped highlights from the ViewNX2 version of the black ferrari I was complaining about:
Here is the Lightroom version with no adjustments
And here it is with highlight recovery
No clipped highlights at all.
Here is a severely backlit shot, processed in ViewNX2 (metering was center-weighted average mode)
And here it is after Lightroom adjustments:
