Lens weight limits K-5, K-x

As I have been more and more enjoying some of the older glass I also find myself wondering just how much weight can you hang on a tripod-mounted K-5 or K-x mount without causing trouble. Some of these lovely steel and glass machines, adaptalls and such, can be easily two pounds and extend a fair distance from the flange. These lenses were designed without any tripod mount. From a physics perspective that creates quite a moment of torque on the camera mount ring and a HUGE one on that little tripod socket in the bottom of the camera body. It worries me.
Does anybody have a good feel for the limits. It's not like Pentax specifies max lens weight based on extension.
Maybe your examples of absurd lenses that have been safely hung on the end of a Pentax body would be useful.
Anybody ever pull the tripod socket out of a body?
Maybe I'm just being a paranoid engineer.
