I learned on a K-1000 back in the mid-80s -- FULLY MANUAL. I think it used ONE little button battery just to give the focus screen some illumination, or something, but EVERYTHING was manual -- winding, setting aperture, shutter speed, focus -- you name it... And as there was no depth-of-field preview, you really had no idea if your shots were properly exposed until you got them back from the printer.

Yeah, there was a little meter in there that showed what the camera thought -- just a little needle that swung from left to right, with center being "correct." And the focus screen had a little matte on half of it that went clear when the image was in focus. That was it.

You learn a lot that way. So how did I forget so much???
