Posts that re-visit old topics,..any value?

Here's an honest forum question which I hope can be discussed in a civil manner.
When a post is made that is similar to a previously discussed topic, there are all sorts of posts putting down the poster,......"Search the forum before you post!" or,...."This was discussed two years ago" or,..."If you don't have anything new to add, why are you posting?"
My take on it is simple. Even when subjects have been discussed previously, I can usually pick up useful information. Besides, nobody is making me read anything. There is no homework assigned. Personally, I like to see old topics re-visited.
This forum is not so busy that we need to carefully select our subjects while guaranteeing that they have never been discussed before. If we only posted new material, there wouldn't be much to read here. In my opinion, the put downs discourage input, especially from new members.
Any opinions, one way or another?
