Some people are willing to pay a lot of money to have something others can't afford. They are willing to pay a lot for exclusivity.

This is why there is a market for $200,000 cars, $1000 bottles of wine, and even perhaps a market for a $6,500 Sony NEX-7 with a Hasselblad logo on it.

In the grand scheme of things.... $300 more for black paint seems a relatively minor thing to be outraged about.

If you really want to get outraged, ask yourself why people who already own desktop computers, laptops, and tablet computers really need a $100 a month smartphone too... while some other people can't afford to own shoes.

The simple answer is.... we really don't need 90% of the things we own. We buy many things simply because we want them and we can afford them. There really is very little connection between what we need and what we want.

Perhaps there should be, but there isn't.....
