The flowers look fine - nothing that a bit of curves adjustment can't sort.
The flowers aren't fine, he's completely blown the red channel on both flower pictures - look at it in Photoshop. This has completely crushed the detail and thus they look soft.
BTW, this is not unusual with red flowers - a quick search reveals hundreds of posts in various forums.
