Just perception or real re quality, Canon vs Nikon

I guarantee you, if you take a model and photograph her with a D700, a 5D, an A77, and an OMD, I can easily tell you which one is which. Each brand has it's own jpeg characteristics. All the cameras can be made to look the same in raw, but if you can't see the difference in jpegs, you're blind.

The D700 is going to be flatter with more muted tones, The 5D is going to be punchier with warm skin tones, the Sony is going to be not as punchy as the Canon, but more defined than the Nikon and the skin tones will be warm if not yellowish. The Olympus is going to be punchy with reddish skin tones. These differences will be there, even if you set the in-camera white balance and exposure the same.

At the end of the day, it comes down to taste. I prefer Canon and Sony for my pictures, but I see other people getting good results with Nikons and Olympus cameras.
