Am I crazy to consider this?

Thanks for your replies. I should probably go rent one to see if I like it enough to sacrifice a stop. I guess I can always crank the ISO one stop: that's what Noise Ninja is for. I'm hiking the Inca Trail in 2013, and that prospect may be the the last nail in the 2.8's coffin.
