Do we upgrade too casually?

I took this in 2006 in St Louis, MO with my, even then, elderly Canon G3. I re-discovered it. when I was installing the ACDSee Pro 6 trial for evaluation

. I love the crisp detail of the thing, but I'm not sure if DPR is capable of rendering that aspect..

I think that it is possible that we replace equipment much too casually. I stopped using the G3 when I got an Oly e500, and I stopped using the e500 when I got an Oly e30. And I'm thinking about replacing the e30. I'm not sure the upgrades have really bought me anything in terms of real image quality.
