Back with Olympus...again
Sep 26, 2012

Ever since owning the E-1, my first DSLR, I've had an affinity for Olympus I haven't been able to shake. And while I've left the fold a few times, most recently to Pentax, I've always kept a watchful and hopeful eye on this forum and the Oly one.

I bought a Pentax K-5 in March after selling my beloved E-1 + 14-54 Mk II, but never ever liked its metering or colors. The sensor, though, is really remarkable. After contemplating getting the OM-D, I went all in and got one with the 12-50 and 45 f/1.8 and the HLD-6 grip after selling my K-5 kit. The camera arrived yesterday and unfortunately I just haven't had the best opportunity to shoot what I'd like to shoot.

Is the OM-D perfect? No, but no camera is. Do I wish the buttons were bigger and more spread out? Yes, but every body has its own compromises. Do I like the EVF? YES! Is the macro mode on the 12-50 worth it alone for that lens? Absolutely. OK, no more rhetorical questions. So far, in the 24 hours I've had it, I'm pleased, very pleased, but I'm biased. I just love Olympus.

QUESTION - do I need to adjust the focal length for the IS? I noticed it's an option and I feel like I need to change something because I've had some shots no turn out sharp that I thought should have definitely been sharp. The default mm setting is 50 in the IS settings. Any suggestions?

Some shots from this evening, with, of course, the obligatory cat shot.
