Sony releases mirrorless market share data

Based on the camera sales rankings in Japan I would say A is Pany, B is Olympus, and C is Nikon without a question.

So worldwide in 2011Sony had 41%, Oly 21%, Pany 18%, Nikon + -17%? Others 3%

If these figures are correct then both NEX and Nikon 1 have made serious competition to m4/3rds market share

The problem is people's perceptions are distorted by the very inaccurate and distorted figures from Amazon while the BCN figures from Japan are more representative.

What surprises me is Pany sells more than 6 times as many m4/3 cameras in Japan and Asia than in US and Europe combined? Since they are able to commend higher prices there not at all surprising they supply there first. Also understandable is why they can afford to offer very good bargains by both Pany & Oly to US market to try and increase market share.

Given the current lack of popularity of DSLR shaped u4/3 models in Japan and Asia very surprising the emphasis Pany has placed on the G and GH3 series when their compact models like GF3 and GX1 are doing so well.

I think the NEX6 will be a game changer with its small kit zoom lens and competitive pricing in this market. The problem remains the larger size of any tele zoom lens and for now slower AF performance compared to m4/3 in my opinion.
