Photokina 2012: Interview - Dirk Jaspers of Nikon (Part 2)

Very insightful. Take aways for me.

1. Nikon sees P7700 as a second camera and not V1.
2. V1 already offers a lot (read do not expect any more upgrades via firmware).

3. The camera is made for non pro users. Quote from the interview "who take pictures of events, and children "

4. Nikon is aware that the 1 series struggles in low light taking precisely the kind of pictures it was designed to do.

I guesss that would explain the decision behind 18.5 mm 1.8 however, I would not hold my breadth for more 1 series lenses any time soon ( I hope I am wrong).

I bought the V1 for my wife to photograph our kids (so we were the intended audience). The enthusiast side of me fell in love with the camera however, that will be unrequited for some time to come.

As I have said before, I will upgrade to the 18.5 mm but enthusiast will have to look elsewhere.
