Hogan's Photokina: DX/APS-C sure looks forelorn.

This a recent interview with Dirk Jasper from Nikon.

Obviously, it is in Spanish, however I will translate some of the interview and feel free to read between the lines.......

¿Crees que el futuro de las cámaras profesionales pasa por el sensor de formato completo?

(Do you believe that the future of professional cameras is heading to Full Frame?)

Creo que veremos sensores APS-C o DX durante un tiempo todavía. Hay un mercado para este tipo de sensor, y está claro que hemos dado un primer paso con la D600 para introducir el full-frame a un rango de usuarios mayor.

Ambos sistemas seguirán en el mercado durante bastante tiempo, pero el mercado está siempre en movimiento. Tenemos las réflex, las compactas, los sistemas sin espejo. Hay muchas opciones para el usuario, y es mejor así porque éste puede elegir.

(I believe thay we will still see APS-C or DX sensors for some time sinces there is still a market for this type of sensor and you can clearly see that the D600 is our first step to bring full frame cameras to more photographers.

Both systems will be in the market for a long time, however, the market will continue moving forward. We have reflex, compact and mirrroless. There are many options for the consumers I think it is better that way since they will have where to choose from.)

Y qué pasa con las cámaras DX de gama profesional?

( So, what is going on with professional DX cameras?)

Tenemos la D300s.

( We have the D300)

Pero es un modelo veterano y muchos usuarios se están impacientando con su renovación.

( This is an old model and users are eagerly waiting for a refresh.)

Es vieja comparada con la D600, está claro, pero las cámaras DX tienen también un planteamiento profesional en la construcción del cuerpo, el sistema de enfoque de 51 puntos... Creo que el grupo de usuarios de esas cámaras podría desviarse hacia la D600. Es probable que así sea. Pero todavía tenemos la D300s en nuestra línea de productos porque es una buena cámara a pesar de los años que tiene y de que ya no es una superventas.

Los fotógrafos de naturaleza, por ejemplo, adoran el recorte que les ofrece el formato DX. También es cierto que eso lo ofrece la D600, aunque se pierde algo de la resolución que dan esos 24 megapíxeles

( It is old compared to the D600, obvioulsy, however, this camera still has professional/sturdy construction + 51p autofocus...... I think that these users could be heading towards the D600. It is a possibility that this is going to happen. However, we still have the D300 in our line and it is a good camera even though it has been out there for many years and it is not a good seller nowdays.

Nature photographers love the DX format and the D600 also offers a DX mode with a modest hit resolution wise)

Veremos entonces una D400 en el futuro?

( Will we see a D400 in the future?)

No tengo ni idea de si un día veremos una cámara con ese nombre.

( I have no clue if we will ever see a camera with that name).
