Quick question, would the RX100 do everything we need?

Tough question, ShawnG...

MY (underline My) feeling is that you'll miss several key features if you trade any DSLR to the RX100.

First, you may not see how much you'll make better composed pictures using a viewfinder instead of the back LCD. Granted, you can make great pictures using only the LCD, but shooting through a viewfinder just feels right and enable fast composing and shooting.

Second, you'll be stuck with the RX100 if you ever need a long range. The 100 mm (35 mm eq) of the RX100 is sufficient for casual photography, but is quite short for sports, animals, and so on. Your call.

Bottom line : I'd recommend any DSLR for a long term investment over the RX-100, especially as it is an expensive gear. It is still a great P&S and I'd love to have one to complement my A65 when I can't carry it around.
