5D Mark III settings for event photography

Snagged a 5D Mark III on the Adorama deal to join the original 5D I've been using for years. Love the look and feel of it, but am a bit intimidated by the significant increase in user options. I'll eventually get to know the camera through trial and error, but I have an event gig on my freelance calendar this week and would like to bring the new camera along.

It's strictly a business ribbon cutting and social event...no complex moving targets...and I'd like some basic recommendations on settings for event photography. I've tried to find something on this via "search" but haven't had a lot of luck.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
