Hello Klaus and Hello Sailor,

I did buy the kit and it arrived today, I took the box into the loft to unpack it and give it a try (we live in a small bungalow) On removing everything from the box I can't complain about the quality of the items, all three flash heads worked first time, the umbrellas are fine the stands are fine and not as flimsy as has been suggested as are the barn doors and gels. The soft boxes go together in the most ingeniously simple way and fit onto the heads easily.

Klaus you are quite right about the power setting, at 10ft and set at f5.6 the GN of 58 is correct, on the lowest setting an aperture of f2.8 was needed to obtain the same image, so with using the head alone the range is only two stops. With the softbox and on the full power setting I used f4 and with the white shoot through brolly used in reflector mode the setting became f2. On my LCD screen which I admit isn't much of a guide the images were all lit in the same manner with some more light spread using the SB and the brolly.

To sum up I would say that for the outlay the kit is very good indeed.

WARNING if you know nothing about electronics DO NOT under any circumstances try this the capacitors in these units could seriously damage your health if not kill you.

Some years ago I bought 3 flash triggering capacitors from a company in France and a flash tube from one in Manchester and made my own flash unit. I back engineered a circuit from a small flash gun (very simple BTW) and it worked fine, by using two switches I could have three flash settings. If and only if there are two or more capacitors in these units I could do a simple modification, adding a switch or two to lower the power and still have two stops from the control potentiometer. You just never know

Jim
