Best not to do this at all I would think.

I polish it all off after applying, so it just leaves a clean shiny slippery surface, I have done this to all my cameras for 10 years, and never had any problems.

But of course as always it is up to the person themselves to decide what to attempt, I only pass on this idea in case it helps someone.
