Show Your Snaps...September 24, 2012
Sep 25, 2012

We invite you again to show your own snapshots or even choice pictures. Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each other and it's fun to share too.

This past Saturday it was time to visit the Astoria Column. I had never been there but it seemed like a good opportunity to see something different along our Oregon coast. It underwent restoration in 1995 and 2004. There's 164 steps to the top.

We will start a new thread for this every week now due to the popularity. I'll be sure to comment also to your images, if you choose to share. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Photo No. 1 - Before visiting the Astoria Column a few miles to the west, I found this interesting along the Columbia River. It was a little hazy...not the best day for taking scenic photos, but it showed the activity along the river.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO200, F16, 1/160, 146mm FL

Photo No. 2 - Here's the Astoria Column as found on Coxcomb Hill, near the city of Astoria, Oregon.

Photo No. 3 - With a closeup....

Photo No. 4 - From the top of the Astoria Column, there's a beautiful view of the mouth of the Columbia River as it empties into the sea.

Canon T2i (550D), 18-55mm IS lens, ISO100, F9, 1/320, 25mm FL

Photo No. 5 - And another....

Canon T2i (550D), 18-55mm IS lens, ISO100, F9, 1/320, 49mm FL

Photo No. 6 - This is a view south of the Astoria Column, shooting into the light. Saddle Mountain (where I went hiking up this past April) is seen on the left.

Canon T2i (550D), 18-55mm lens, ISO100, F9, 1/125, 23mm FL

Photo No. 7 - This is the view looking down. I felt reasonably safe, but I didn't care to stay up there for very long.

Canon T2i (550D), 18-55mm lens, ISO100, F9, 1/100, 18mm FL

Photo No. 8 - This is what the Astoria Column looks like as seen from Fort Clatsop (seen at the top of the hill in the background). Fort Clatsop was a settlement that was built for Lewis & Clark and his exploration party at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO100, F11, 1/320, 100mm FL

Canon EOS 550D (EOS Rebel T2i / EOS Kiss X4)
