It's no speed demon, but it's competent. Occasionally hunts, but not often. I like to use it when when I have sufficient light (indoor w/flash, outdoor), but no sports. Ken Rockwell has a pretty comprehensive review at http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/70210f4.htm .
