How can i get this kind of pictures?

Yesterday we did some practicing in moderate wind speeds. All pictures shot from shore.

• F 5.6, ISO 200, shutter speeds between 1/300 and 1/400

• I have to choose between focusing on the face or composition. The boat is approaching to fast to recomposition. Sometimes the mast or bow are in focus and the face, some 1.5 m further away are out of focus.

For me it is now obviuous that if you use better glass to have les DOF at these focus lenghts, you need good focus tracking. On the other hand, 150 mm in 4/3 is long enough.

Retouching and cropping is as important as the gear... not a single shot had the water line level, and its better to aim at the face and compose to allow some cropping in post.
